| Thallus endophloeodal  to epiphloeodal, to c. 200 µm thick, pale olive to pale yellowish grey, somewhat  glossy, smooth, continuous to slightly verruculose, non-rimose. True cortex continuous, slightly yellowish, to c. 40 µm  thick, formed by periclinal to irregular hyphae, occasionally  not conglutinated in part and forming a  protocortex. Algal layer well developed, continuous; calcium oxalate crystals  sparse to abundant, mostly large and clustered, a medulla sometimes present.  Vegetative propagules not seen. Ascomata inconspicuous, often abundant, to c. 0.4  mm diam., ±rounded, apothecioid, solitary to marginally fused, mostly immersed,  rarely somewhat emergent and  hemispherical. Disc often becoming partly visible from above, pale flesh-coloured,  epruinose to slightly pruinose. Pores to c. 0.2 mm diam., mostly ±rounded,  rarely somewhat irregular, entire; proper exciple not visible from above.  Thalline rim becoming thick, occasionally funnel-shaped, brighter than the thallus, forming a narrow pale brownish  to off-white ring, incurved. Inner ascomatal margin bilayered, with a thin fused  proper exciple and a thicker layer of conglutinated paraphyses, not clearly  separated from the hymenium, pale yellowish, usually ±amyloid, turning reddish,  often with a thick layer of greyish granules towards the epihymenium. Hymenium to  c. 70 µm thick, not inspersed, strongly conglutinated; paraphyses somewhat  irregular, unbranched, often distinctly septate, slightly interwoven, with  slightly to distinctly thickened irregular tips; lateral paraphyses and  columellar structures absent. Epihymenium hyaline, occasionally with fine greyish granules. Asci 8-spored; tholus  thin or absent. Ascospores 1-septate, rarely non-septate, ellipsoidal to  fusiform, with narrowly rounded to subacute ends, hyaline, moderately amyloid,  10–13 × 4–6 µm; locules subglobose to conical; septum thick; ascospore wall  thick, non-halonate. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K–, C–, P–; no secondary compounds detectable by TLC. | ||
